University of Auckland Business School

In 2006, The Glenn Family Foundation provided The University of Auckland Business School with what is believed to be the largest donation made to an educational institution in New Zealand.

The NZ$7.5 million gift was to assist the Business School with its “world-class business school” fundraising initiative for a new, top-level facility and the development of new teaching and research programmes.

The University of Auckland Business School: the Owen G Glenn Building

In recognition of the significance of this contribution to the Business School, the University of Auckland named their new, iconic building the Owen G Glenn Building.

Today the building buzzes with activity from morning to night, with students attending classes in top computer laboratories, case rooms and lecture theatres - all with state-of-the-art electronic equipment. The cafes are favourite meeting places and there is room for many smaller, informal areas where students hold discussions and work together in small groups.

The Owen G Glenn Building has also created a "home" for New Zealand business: the building is a very popular venue for business and other organisations to hold seminars and conferences, enabling the School to interact with its broader constituency outside the university.

The Glenn Family Foundation is proud to be associated with this dynamic institution which is leading the way in business education in New Zealand and is delighted that the new building is proving to be a valuable asset for the The University of Auckland and Auckland City more generally.

As well as this major gift, the Glenn Family Foundation has provided NZ$500,000 in funding to endow a Barry Spicer and Owen G Glenn Scholarship to help PhD students in business undertake research which is relevant to New Zealand's economic future.

The Glenn Family Foundation has also pledged NZ$50,000 towards the provision of a Sir Howard Morrison PhD Scholarship to support a promising Maori scholar to study at The University of Auckland Business School.

This is in support of the Business School’s Maori Business Leader’s Award which is offered annually to a successful Maori business person. Sir Howard, who was a close friend of GFF founder, Owen Glenn, received this award in 2004. The GFF's gift has been the catalys tfor the establishment of an endowment fund which will eventually provide sufficient funds to cover a PhD scholarship.

Founder Owen Glenn keeps in close and regular contact with the Business School on his visits to New Zealand. He relishes his interactions with students, often speaking to classes and student groups, meeting his scholarship students and working with teaching and research staff on research about his logistics business. As well, a number of  Business School graduates have been employed by OTS.
