AUT-Millennium Institute

The AUT-Millennium Institute, located on Auckland’s North Shore, is a new initiative set up to encourage and inspire New Zealand’s top athletes across a number of codes to excel in international competition.

It has a big vision for New Zealand’s future sporting success in the worldwide arena, and to support this, the Institute is developing innovative education and training programmes and is undertaking cutting-edge research, in health, sport and recreation.

The Glenn Family Foundation applauds the development of a world-class, high performance sports centre in New Zealand, and the fact that the AUT-Millennium Institute also offers popular community programmes to encourage young locals to engage in a variety of sporting codes.

Rowing, cycling, athletics, swimming, sailing, triathlons, rugby, netball, cricket and hockey are all  targeted by the Institute as sports where New Zealand atheletes can compete and win against international competition.  Other popular sports such as football are also included in the Institute’s programmes.

To support the concept of such a top class facility, the Foundation provided NZ $100,000 to the Institute in 2008, to fund initial research on the project.

A further donation of $1 million was provided by the Foundation in September 2010 for the development of the new National Training Centre for elite athletes. This is due to open in 2013.

In addition, the Foundation has pledged a further NZ$2.75 million in matching funds for a new, state of the art Aquatic Centre provided that the Institute raises an equal amount from other sources.

Join us in supporting this worthwhile initiative which will enable New Zealand’s top athletes to receive world-class preparation for international competition, provide role models for aspiring atheletes, while supporting community sports, exercise and related health programmes.
